Exploring the different types of fibers
Fibres are thread-like structures that are long, thin and flexible. These may be spun into yarns and then made into fabrics. There can be different types of fibres. On the basis of their origin, fibres are classified as natural fibres and synthetic fibres.
Natural Fibers:
Plant Fiber
- Cotton
- Jute
- Hemp
- Bamboo
- Banana
- Coir
- Sisal
- Flax
Animal Fiber
- Wool
- Casmere
- Camel
- Alpaca
- Mohair
- Silk(Silk Worm)
- Angora
Man Made Fiber
Synthetic Fibers
- Rayon
- Polyester
- Nylon
- Spandex
- Acrylic
- Polyamide
Regenerated (Semi-Synthetic) Fibers
- Rayon (Viscose):
Rayon is a versatile fiber made from cellulose, often derived from wood pulp. - Lyocell (Tencel):
It’s produced using a closed loop process that recycles nearly all the chemicals involved. - Modal:
Modal is a type of rayon made from beech tree pulp. - Acetate:
It’s not much more stronger than other fibers.
