Warp Knitted Fabric

Warp knitting is a process where yarn is fed into the knitting area parallel to the edge of the fabric to form loops. Once a row of vertical loops is made, it moves diagonally to create the next row. This causes the threads to zigzag along the fabric’s length. Various yarns are used to make each stitch in a row and in a single column.

Warp Knitting Structure
Warp knitting is a method where yarns are fed into the knitting area along the lines of stitches or parallel to the edges of the fabric. In warp knitting, each knitting needle works with at least one unique yarn. To form fabric, the yarns are interwoven sideways between the needles to connect the stitches. This process often involves knitting a new yarn loop through the loop made by the other end of the yarn from the previous knitting cycle.

The length of the under lap is defined in terms of needle spaces. The longer the underlap, the more it lies at right angles to the fabric length axis. The longer the underlap for a given warp the greater the increase in lateral fabric stability, conversely a shorter under lap reduces the width-wise stability and strength and increases the lengthways stability of the fabric.

Applications of Warp Knitted Fabrics

Warp-knitted fabrics are very flexible and can be used in many different ways. We will look at how they are used in clothing and undergarments, technical fabrics for industry, home decorations, car interiors, sports equipment, and medical supplies.
