How to Calculate Hourly Production Target

How to Calculate Hourly Production Target

Hourly production target calculation is a part of an operation bulletin (OB) preparation and daily production report. In an operation bulletin production target is calculated for each operations.

Importance of Production Targets in Garment Manufacturing

Setting hourly production targets serves several important purposes in the garment industry. Firstly, it promotes operational efficiency by ensuring that each worker knows their output expectations. Secondly, it helps in evaluating the performance of both individuals and lines, which is crucial for incentive-based systems and worker motivation. Additionally, when factories operate under strict deadlines, having an accurate Production Target in the Garment Industry ensures that customer expectations are met while minimizing overtime and unnecessary delays.

Hourly production target = (60 / Operation SAM)

An hour is equal to 60 minutes. Divide 60 minutes by the operation SAM to claculate hourly production target.

Here are examples

Example : When SAM of an operation is 5 minute. Hourly production target would be

=(60/5) =12 pieces

Let’s say skill level of that operator is 75% efficiency, in that case production target would be

= (60/5)*75% =12*75% = 9 pieces

Hence, the Production Target in the Garment Industry after adjustments is 9 garments per hour per operator.

Calculation of Hourly Production Target of a Production Line

On the other hand for calculating hourly production target for a production line use the following formula

Hourly Production Target of a line =(60 * No. of operators working in a line * Line efficiency %) /(Garment SAM)

The information you need for calculating hourly production target are –

  1. Standard time (SAM) of the operation
  2. Average efficiency of the line (Or individual efficiency of the specific operator)

An Example:

Number of operators working in a line : 40

Daily shift Hours : 8 Hours

Garment SAM : 20 Minutes

Line Efficiency : 70%

Production target of this line (Daily) = (8 X 70 X 40 X80%)/20

=(560 x 40 x 80) / (100 x 20)

= 896 units
