How to Convert Knits Fabric Requirement from Kg to Meter

Profits are one of the significant indicators of business performance. Apparel manufacturing businesses need to estimate the fabric required to produce a garment to the closest possible figures. If an apparel manufacturer uses excess material, it wastes a high percentage of its money and resources.

You need to know the following parameters for the given fabric.

  • Fabric width
  • Fabric weight per square unit {Normally fabric weight is expressed per square meter in grams. (GSM) )
  • Fabric weight that you want to convert in meters

What is the formula to convert kg to meter?

Length of the fabric (in meter) = Weight of the fabric (in kgs) x 1000 / [Width of the fabric (in meter) x Fabric GSM]

Many shirts are made using the fabric from the roll and now the weight of the roll is 25.7kgs. Based on the above, what is the remaining length of fabric in the roll in meters?

So, the weight of the fabric is 25.7 kgs, fabric GSM is 180 grams, and the width of the fabric is 1.6 meters, the length of the fabric (in meters) will be calculated as under:

Fabric length (in meters) = 25.7 x 1000 / [1.6 x 180]

= 89.24 meters.

Suppose the weight of the fabric is 10.7 kgs, fabric GSM is 150 grams, and the width of the fabric is 94 inches, the length of the fabric (in meters) will be calculated as under:

Length of the fabric (in meter) = Weight of the fabric (in kgs) x 1000 / [Width of the fabric (in meter) x 0.0254 x Fabric GSM]

Fabric length (in meters) = 10.7 x 1000 / [94 x 0.0254 x 150]
